Dear Ulysses Byas Families,
It is with great honor and excitement that I welcome you to the 2018-2019 school year at Ulysses Byas Elementary School. I am in great expectation of greeting your child(ren) on the first day of school in “Our Place Called Home”. We are committed to educating the whole child, by setting high academic expectations for all children and providing supportive systems to assure they are met.
As principal of Ulysses Byas Elementary School, I am elated to bring my skills as an educational leader to work with you as a partner to ensure your child’s success. I am committed to working diligently to continue the legacy of success established at Ulysses Byas by building strong relationships with you as parents, students, staff and community partners.
We will focus on fostering a nurturing safe environment for all children, in addition to incorporating Common Core State Standards to educate your child(ren). The CCSS define what all students are expected to know and be able to do. Ulysses Byas teachers and administrators have begun to assume responsibility of implementing the Common Core State Standards. These standards are designed to be relevant to the real world, reflecting knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers. We believe all that we strive for serves as the framework for best practice to be life-long learners.
I anticipate a most successful year as my team and I support the academic, social, and emotional growth of your child(ren) here at Ulysses Byas Elementary School. It is my hope that we will work together to prepare your children to be world class citizens ready to master the challenges of the 21st century with a solid foundation created here at our school.
Ms. Charlene Stroughn
