    Dear Parents, Guardians and Caregivers,

    I am sorry to inform you that our dear teacher Mrs. Judith Sinclair, at Ulysses Byas Elementary School has died on Thursday, April 18, 2019Sadly, Mrs. Sinclair lost her battle with a chronic illness.

    Death can be difficult for us to understand, especially when it is sudden. We may feel a variety of emotions: shock, sadness, or confusion. What is most important is that we care for and support each other.

    The Post Incident Response Team at Ulysses Byas Elementary School has made plans to respond to the emotional needs of all students.  Upon our return to school Monday, April 29, 2019, grief counselors will be on site for all students and staff, classroom debriefing sessions will be conducted (as needed) and information for referrals to support services with District staff and community based organizations will be given.  Students have been informed and staff members will be available to provide support as needed.

    If your family has experienced a death or similar loss recently, the death of Mrs. Judith Sinclair may bring up feelings about that death. While this may be a normal experience, we want to provide assistance if needed. Please let your child’s teacher know if there is any additional information the school should be aware of so we can provide the support your child needs.

    The arrangements are as follows:

    Viewing: Friday, April 26, 2019 at 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 9 a.m.

    Service: Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 10 a.m.

    Internment: Greenfield Cemetery, Uniondale, NY

    Repast: Immediately following the burial at the church

    All to be held at First United Methodist Church, 30 Union Place (Corner of Whitehouse Ave.), Roosevelt, NY 11575

    Estimados padres y encargados,

    Siento informarles que un miembro del personal Sra. Judith Sinclair, de la Escuela Primaria Ulysses Byas ha fallecido el jueves 18 de abril de 2019.   Lamentablemente, las señora Sinclair perdió su batalla con una enfermedad crónica.

    La muerte puede ser difícil de entender para nosotros, especialmente cuando ha sido inesperada o repentina. Podríamos sentir diferentes emociones: estado de shock, tristeza, o confusión. Pero lo más importante es que nos preocupamos y damos apoyo unos a los otros.

    El Equipo de Respuesta Posterior al Incidente de la Escuela Ulysses Byas ha hecho planes para responder a las necesidades emocionales de todos los estudiantes A nuestro regreso a la escuela el lunes 29 de abril de 2019, asesoramiento sobre el duelo, información en el aula, y referencias para apoyar al personal de servicio y las organizaciones basadas en la comunidad. Los estudiantes han sido informados y miembros del personal estarán disponibles para dar apoyo cuando sea necesario. 

    Si su familia ha experimentado el fallecimiento o pérdida de un familiar recientemente, el fallecimiento de Sra. Judith Sinclair pudiera traer sentimientos sobre el mismo. Si bien esto pueda ser una experiencia normal, queremos proveer asistencia si se necesita. Favor de hacerle saber a la/el maestra/o/ si hay alguna información adicional que la escuela debe saber para poder proveer el apoyo que su hija/o pueda necesitar.

    Los arreglos son los siguientes:

    Velorio: viernes 26 de abril de 2019 a las 5 p.m. hasta las 9 p.m. y sábado 27 de abril de 2019 a las 9 a.m.

    Servicio: sábado 27 de abril de 2019 a las 10 a.m.

    Internamiento: Greenfield Cemetery, Uniondale, NY

    Reparto: Inmediatamente después del entierro en la iglesia.

     Dear Ulysses Byas Families,

              It is with great honor and excitement that I welcome you to the 2018-2019 school year at Ulysses Byas Elementary School. I am in great expectation of greeting your child(ren) on the first day of school in “Our Place Called Home”. We are committed to educating the whole child, by setting high academic expectations for all children and providing supportive systems to assure they are met.

    As principal of Ulysses Byas Elementary School, I am elated to bring my skills as an educational leader to work with you as a partner to ensure your child’s success. I am committed to working diligently to continue the legacy of success established at Ulysses Byas by building strong relationships with you as parents, students, staff and community partners.

    We will focus on fostering a nurturing safe environment for all children, in addition to incorporating Common Core State Standards to educate your child(ren). The CCSS define what all students are expected to know and be able to do. Ulysses Byas teachers and administrators have begun to assume responsibility of implementing the Common Core State Standards. These standards are designed to be relevant to the real world, reflecting knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers. We believe all that we strive for serves as the framework for best practice to be life-long learners.

    I anticipate a most successful year as my team and I support the academic, social, and emotional growth of your child(ren) here at Ulysses Byas Elementary School. It is my hope that we will work together to prepare your children to be world class citizens ready to master the challenges of the 21st century with a solid foundation created here at our school.
