On March 1, 2013 Washington Rose joined schools around the nation to celebrate Read Across America Day. Read Across America Day was created in honor of beloved children’s book author Dr. Seuss, who’s birthday happens to be March 2nd. It is a day to celebrate the joys of reading, and that is exactly what we did. Students came to school dressed down in their blue and gold sweat suits, and brought stuffed animals in to snuggle with and read to during our school-wide read-in. Throughout the day, the focus was on reading. We started the day reciting a pledge to read during our morning announcements. Guest readers were invited to classrooms to read to the students, and throughout the school students could be found reading or being read to. Many classes embraced the spirit of Dr. Seuss and even made their own Cat in the Hat hats. Some of the teachers even got in on the act. It was a great day and a reminder of how much fun reading can be!Submitted by Mrs. PackertClick here to see reading in Mrs. Kelly and Mrs. Priestley's class!
