What is the Alternative Learning Academy?
The Alternative Learning Academy provides a customized learning environment that emphasizes cooperative and collaborative student –teacher interaction. The goal of “graduation” is kept in the forefront of thinking, as students prepare to surpass benchmarks of the New York State standards. The instructional staff continually strives to create a family atmosphere that supports the student in achieving common goals. In each classroom, students are engaged in a mentoring relationship in contrast to the teacher-lecture model and student-centered activities.
Our Staff has been trained in and utilizes differentiated instruction to encourage divergent thinking by each learner. The A.L.A. also addresses students in need of credit recovery and provides immediate academic intervention services to avoid academic deficits. Through methods that include project-based assessment, examining real-life situations, critical analysis and problem solving skills, the Alternative Learning Academy helps to foster a firm foundation that assesses the complex individual and breeds academic success.
Orientation for parents and Students will be on Tuesday September 17, 2024 at 6pm in the Roosevelt High School Cafeteria.
