The Best Resource for Parents
As the largest volunteer child advocacy association in the nation, Parent Teacher Association (PTA) reminds our country of its obligations to children and provides parents and families with a powerful voice to speak on behalf of every child while providing the best tools for parents to help their children be successful students.
PTA does not act alone. Working in cooperation with many national education, health, safety, and child advocacy groups and federal agencies, the national PTA organization collaborates on projects that benefit children and that bring valuable resources to its members.
PTA is the oldest and largest child advocacy group in the nation. New York organized the first state PTA congress in 1897. Currently, NYS PTA has a membership exceeding 348,000 in more than 1600 local units and councils.
A local PTA is a constituent association organized under the authority of the New York State Congress of Parents and Teachers, Inc. (the New York State PTA), a branch of the National Congress of Parents and Teachers (the National PTA).
Parent Teacher Association® and PTA® are registered service marks of the National Congress of Parents and Teachers (National PTA). Only those groups chartered by the New York State PTA are entitled to use the name PTA. Any other use constitutes trademark infringement.
PTA offers a variety of programs to help parents, students, and communities succeed. PTA presents signature programs such as:Healthy Lifestyles as well as annual events such as Start the Art and Teacher Appreciation Week.
PTA encourages parent involvement through its hallmark Family-School Partnerships initiative and the accompanying National Standards for Family-School Partnerships. PTA Reflections is the most successful arts program in the nation, reaching thousands of students each year.
PTA’s Awards programs honor outstanding work. For example, the Hearst Awards recognize local units’ efforts to build family-school partnerships. The Mary Lou Anderson Reflections Arts Enhancement Grants support student-centered arts education programs.
PTA offers resources for everyone with programs backed by the organization’s long history and expertise in addressing the needs of children, parents and schools. Find out more by accessing the resources below.
