Mrs. Rose Gietschier Elected as New Roosevelt Board of Education President

The Roosevelt Union Free School District Board of Education has elected Mrs. Rose Gietschier as Board President for the 2021-2022 school year. The announcement was made during the Board's annual reorganization meeting held on Tuesday, July 6. Mrs. Gietschier has served on the Roosevelt Board of Education since 2017, previously serving as First Vice President. She has played an integral role in furthering the District's mission of providing students with the resources they need to excel in the classroom and beyond. Also announced during the reorganization meeting: Mrs. Belinda Monroe was elected to the position of First Vice President, and Mrs. Susan Gooding was elected as Second Vice President. Other trustees on the Board include Dr. Emily Moore and Mrs. Charlena Croutch, who previously served as President.

"The Roosevelt School District is steadfast in its collective mission to put our students in a position to succeed in and out of the classroom, and that only happens with strong leadership from the Board of Education," said Superintendent of the Roosevelt Union Free School District, Dr. Deborah L. Wortham. "Mrs. Gietschier's experience both as a Board member and as a community advocate here in Roosevelt will be a guiding force during these still unprecedented times as we continue to raise the bar of excellence that our community expects from our District. Congratulations, Mrs. Gietschier and the entire Board; we are excited about the future."

An alum and a Rough Rider for life, Mrs. Gietschier has been an advocate for Roosevelt students' academics for several years and has served in many capacities to meet the goal of elevating the academic offerings and quality of education Roosevelt students receive. The mother of triplets, she has served as Community Activist, Program Coordinator, and Past PTSA President. Mrs. Gietschier served as first Vice President of the Board of Education for the 2020-2021 academic year. In a year unlike any other, Mrs. Gietschier's experience and capacity to work with the other members of the Board quickly established her as a critical voice in the District. Working with her Board colleagues, she is committed to ensuring the District is successful in its mission of educating all Roosevelt children to be proficient and globally ready.

"As we transition into the 2021-2022 school year, we as a District are grateful for the service of Mrs. Charlena Croutch, whose time as President has set a new standard of leadership for the Roosevelt School District and moved the District to a higher trajectory," said Superintendent Dr. Wortham.
