Roosevelt Community has its own Little Free Library
Roosevelt was added to the international network of Little Free Libraries. The new Little Free Library was added in front of Washington Rose Elementary School and was dedicated to Twana Hobbs- Stanley! Our Little Free Library was built by kids for kids! It all started with the Washington Rose Rocking Readers who sometimes do not have a book handy and cannot visit the school or public library to read daily. A proposal was posted on donorschoose.org for a Little Free Library and it was funded by generous donors including some of our teachers here at Washington Rose. Washington Rose ELA Academic Standards Facilitator, Mrs. Thadal, reached out to The Book Fairies, Our Kinds Read Inc., and Long Island University Post Art Honors professors Winn Rea and Heather Butts and invited them to help bring this project to fruition. Meanwhile, a team at Washington Rose, including our reading teacher Ms. Mascoll, our art teacher Ms. Berberena, our librarian Mrs. Packert, our ENL teacher Mrs. Wiggins, and classroom teachers Mrs. Rivera and Mrs. Washington worked together to create a plan to get the children of Washington Rose involved in this project.
