Roosevelt School District Appoints Assistant Superintendent of Data, Attendance, Assessment, and Registration

Arlise Carson will oversee Roosevelt’s initiative to become a data-driven district

ROOSEVELT, NEW YORK (SEPTEMBER 2022) — The Roosevelt Union Free School District is excited to announce the appointment of Arlise Carson as the District’s new Assistant Superintendent of Data, Attendance, Assessment, and Registration. Mrs. Carson most recently served as the District’s Director of Curriculum and Instruction and has established a reputation for success and achievement within the District.

Mrs. Carson’s appointment, effective August 24, comes as part of the Board of Education’s initiative to transform Roosevelt into a data-driven district. In her new role, Mrs. Carson will work directly with the Office of Curriculum and Instruction to gather, report and analyze dynamic student data to help the District gauge both classroom and student performance, with the goal of increasing student achievement.

“The Roosevelt School District has always prioritized the success and well-being of our students. By becoming a data-driven district, we will further our goal of understanding and employing what our students need to achieve at their highest level,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Deborah Wortham. “We are thrilled to have Mrs. Carson spearheading this effort and we are confident that she will continue to help us reach our goals.”

Mrs. Carson began her career in education in 1999 as a classroom teacher across multiple schools in New York and Texas. In 2009, she became an Instructional /Curriculum Specialist at Oak Springs Elementary School in Austin, Texas. At the same time, she served as an Attendance/Dropout Prevention Specialist for Pre-K through 8th Grade at District Title I in Leander, Texas.

In 2011, Mrs. Carson became Assistant Principal at Four Points Middle School and in 2012 she was appointed the Assistant Principal of Neumann High School, both in Leander, Texas. In 2013, Mrs. Carson returned to New York and became the Dean at Brownsville Ascend Charter School in Brooklyn. Two years later, she became the School Director at Canarsie Ascend Charter School in Brooklyn. Mrs. Carson became a principal across multiple schools in the Hempstead School District starting in 2015 and joined the Roosevelt School District in 2021.

Mrs. Carson earned her bachelor’s degree in political science on a pre-law track from Norfolk State University in Virginia in 1998. She earned her Master of Professional Study degree with an urban focus from Nyack College in 2002 and earned her Master of Science in education and special education from Touro College in 2005. She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Education degree in student curriculum and instruction from Liberty University.

“I have already achieved some of the goals I set out in joining the Roosevelt School District, such as working with Dr. Wortham in helping to increase student achievement,” said Mrs. Carson. “I aim to continue analyzing and using attendance, assessment and registration data to further improve the educational experience and success of all students.
