ROOSEVELT, NEW YORK (APRIL 2025)—The Roosevelt School District is proud to announce that four Roosevelt High School Varsity wrestlers were recently recognized for their exceptional achievements. Jasmine Guerra and Nathaly Fernandez were highlighted at the first Nassau County Girls Wrestling All-County Dinner, and Sauricio Romero and Russell Slinger were honored at the Nassau County Wrestling All-County Dinner.

“These students pour their dedication and passion into everything they do and we’re very proud of them on these well-deserved honors,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Shawn Wightman. “They represent Roosevelt with pride through their hard work, discipline and commitment both on the mat, in the classroom and in the community.”

Sauricio Romero, Jasmine Guerra and Nathaly Fernandez each earned All-County honors after placing at the top of their respective weight classes in Nassau County, marking them among the elite student-athletes in the region. Their performances this season reflect both their athletic talent and their relentless dedication to the sport.

In addition to these accolades, Russell Slinger, Sauricio Romero, and Nathaly Fernandez received special recognition scholarships awarded by the Nassau County Wrestling Coaches Association. These scholarships celebrate not only athletic excellence but also academic achievement, leadership, and sportsmanship—core values upheld by Roosevelt’s wrestling program.

The Roosevelt School District congratulates these outstanding students and looks forward to seeing their continued success in the future.
