District Offers Impactful Immersive
Learning Experience During Annual Trip Abroad
ROOSEVELT, NEW YORK (AUGUST 2025)—A group of eight Roosevelt High School students recently explored some of the world’s most iconic historical sites during the Roosevelt School District’s summer field trip to Greece. Organized by Roosevelt High School Guidance Counselor Lori Messina, the trip offered students a once-in-a-lifetime educational experience overseas from July 24 to August 2.
The Roosevelt students, who were joined by six additional local peers, embarked on three expert-led sightseeing tours and a four-day Greek island cruise that included three guided excursions. Each tour and excursion offered another opportunity for students to become immersed in the rich history and culture of Greece and its world-renowned landmarks.
“Our District’s trip to Greece was such an exciting experience for our students to broaden their horizons and immerse themselves in another culture,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Shawn Wightman. “This opportunity sparked curiosity and wonder in our students as they explored ancient history beyond their classrooms and textbooks.”
Among the highlights was a guided tour of Athens, where the group ascended the Acropolis, marveled at the Parthenon and the Temple of Athena Nike, and explored the Panathenaic Stadium where the first modern Olympic Games was held in 1896. The students also explored the Acropolis Museum and traveled to Delphi, where they visited an olive farm, toured an archaeological museum, and climbed the ruins of the Temple of Apollo.
The adventure continued beyond the mainland with stops at ancient Ephesus, a traditional Turkish carpet factory, and Poseidon’s Temple. The experienced left students inspired by the blend of history, mythology and natural beauty.
Looking ahead, Roosevelt High School is already planning its next global excursion. In July 2026, students will head to Costa Rica to explore the country's vibrant culture, lush ecosystems and biodiversity.
