RHS National Honor Society Teams Up with Liberty Utilities to Protect our Planet
ROOSEVELT, NEW YORK (APRIL 2025)—The National Honor Society at Roosevelt High School in the Roosevelt School District joined forces with Liberty Utilities to honor Earth Day by cleaning up Jones Beach, demonstrating the power of community partnership and student leadership in environmental stewardship.
“We are incredibly proud of our students for leading with heart and dedicating their time to such an important cause,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Shawn Wightman. “By taking the initiative to care for our planet, they’re inspiring their community and making a lasting difference.”
Roughly two dozen students joined with team members from Liberty Utilities for the initiative, held on Wednesday, April 23rd, in recognition of Earth Day. The group dedicated their afternoon to collecting litter and debris along the Jones Beach shoreline. The effort not only improved the local environment but also served as a meaningful opportunity for students to give back while raising awareness about the importance of protecting our natural resources.
The Jones Beach cleanup is one of several service projects the Roosevelt National Honor Society organizes throughout the school year, reflecting their ongoing commitment to scholarship, leadership, character and service.
