Rough Riders Have an Incredible Experience
at the Prestigious International Golf Tournament

ROOSEVELT, NEW YORK (SEPTEMBER 2025)—A group of Roosevelt High School students recently had the unforgettable experience of attending the 45th annual Ryder Cup at the Bethpage Black Course at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale. This was the first year Long Island was home to the world-renowned golf tournament. Representing their school and district with pride, the Rough Riders witnessed championship-level golf up close and gained both inspiration and insight into the global game and tournament.

"This was more than just a trip to a sporting event," said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Shawn Wightman. "It was a chance for our students to engage with history in the making and to witness the power of unity, competition, and professionalism on a global stage."

The field trip gave students the rare opportunity to see elite athletes from Team USA and Team Europe compete in a high-stakes, high-energy atmosphere. Surrounded by thousands of passionate fans and set against the backdrop of a world-class golf course, the event brought life to lessons about international teamwork, sportsmanship, and what goes into planning such a large-scale sporting event. Joined by Principal Keith Saunders Sr., students also had the opportunity to participate in golf demonstrations, interviews and more.

The experience not only sparked excitement among the students but also deepened their appreciation for golf, global culture and career opportunities in sports management, media and communications and event coordination.

Roosevelt High School is proud of its students for representing the district with enthusiasm, respect, and Rough Rider spirit throughout the trip.
