Schools Collaborate and Share Ideas Ahead of this Years Competitions

ROOSEVELT, NEW YORK (OCTOBER 2025)—Roosevelt High School’s JROTC VEX Robotics team is partnering with Jericho High School’s VEX Robotics team to design, build, and program competition-ready robots for the upcoming season. This collaboration highlights the district’s ongoing commitment to teamwork, innovation, and shared learning in STEM education.

“The partnership between Roosevelt and Jericho is a wonderful example of how collaboration can inspire innovation and strengthen STEM learning,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Shawn Wightman. “Our students are learning valuable lessons not just about robotics and engineering, but also about teamwork and perseverance.”

Roosevelt’s students have been working diligently to create and refine their robot designs, turning their ideas into functional prototypes in preparation for upcoming competitions. Through this partnership, both teams have exchanged ideas, strategies and technical expertise. The partnership has strengthened their engineering and programming skills, while fostering collaboration between schools.

This spring, Roosevelt High School will proudly host JROTC students from across the Northeast for the district’s third annual JROTC High Stakes Competition. The event will feature teams competing in VEX Robotics challenges, with top performers earning the opportunity to advance to the prestigious VEX Robotics World Championship in Dallas, Texas, in May.

The World Championship brings together the best teams from the VEX IQ Robotics Competition, VEX V5 Robotics Competition, and VEX U Robotics Competition from around the world. These teams will celebrate their achievements and participate in the 2025–2026 games to vie for the title of world champion.

This partnership and the upcoming competition underscore the district’s dedication to advancing STEM education and providing students with opportunities to develop these skills beyond the classroom.
