Temporary Road Closures: Wagner Avenue & Hillman Place
The Roosevelt Union Free School District would like to inform families and community members that Wagner Avenue and Hillman Place will be temporarily closed next week as part of scheduled roadwork in the area. Crews from Road Work Ahead, Inc. will conduct milling on Monday, November 10th, followed by paving on Tuesday, November 11th. During this time, both roads will be closed to through traffic for safety reasons. We encourage all students, staff, and visitors to use Denton Place as an alternative route and allow additional travel time when visiting district buildings. We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as these important roadway improvements are completed to better serve our community.
Please see below for more information regarding our district's plans for Grade 6 Transition to Middle School.
After careful consideration, research, and collaboration with staff, families, and community members, we will be moving our 6th grade students to Roosevelt Middle School, beginning in September 2026.
This decision supports our ongoing efforts to provide the best possible learning environment and opportunities for all students. By aligning grades 6-8 at the middle school level, we will be able to offer:
Expanded academic opportunities, including access to specialized teachers, advanced coursework, and enhanced programs in areas such as science, technology, and the arts.
Improved social and emotional support, ensuring students receive age-appropriate guidance and resources as they transition from elementary to secondary education.
Increased extracurricular and enrichment options, allowing students to explore interests and develop leadership skills.
More efficient use of space and resources, helping us balance enrollment across schools and maintain optimal class sizes.
We recognize that transitions can bring both excitement and questions. Our team is committed to supporting students and families every step of the way. Please join us for a Community Forum on Monday, December 8, 2025, at Roosevelt Middle School at 6:00pm. Over the coming months, we will share additional information and host opportunities for families to learn more about this transition.
We value your partnership as we prepare for this important step forward. Together, we can ensure a smooth and successful transition for our 6th grade students as they begin their middle school journey.
Thank you for your continued support of our schools and students.
